Lawson State Women's Basketball Team Wins Conference Title
Captures State ACCC Championship and Historic Victory for the College

(BIRMINGHAM, Alabama) - Lawson State Women's Basketball Team (24-9) claimed the 2015 Alabama Community College Conference Championship defeating Wallace-Hanceville (26-6)
by a score of 66-50.
As state champions, Lawson State automatically advances to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 tournament in Salina, Kansas, to be held March 16-21. According to the NJCCA bracket, Lawson State will face Tyler Junior College (TX) on Monday, March 16 at 8:30 p.m. (CT). The winner will face Southern Idaho on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. (CT). The NJCAA is the national governing body for junior and community colleges.

"I am very happy and excited for my team," said Aubrey Wiley, head coach of the Lawson State women's basketball team. "These young ladies showed great determination throughout this season. They earned it."

The Lady Cougars racked up a number of honors, including: Tournament MVP, Kara Rawls; and All-Conference First-Team, Kyla Rooks, Ashley McCrear and Larian Scott.

Coach Aubrey Wiley was honored as ACCC Coach of the Year.

"We were fourth-seeded going into the tournament and therefore truly elated with this win for our athletic program and college," said Coach Carlton Rice, athletic director for Lawson State. "This victory is also historic for the college being the first time in school history that the women's team has won the ACCC Conference Championship."
